Taking your dog on holiday
Most dog parents would agree that there is nothing like the company of our faithful four-legged friend(s). Yet many owners are forced to miss their sweet pooches during fun family outings and holidays because they simply refuse to get in the car, become terrified and/or carsick during the ride.
While for us PAW-rents, a car ride is often the time to catch up with our passenger(s) or sing along to the music at the top of our lungs, for many of our four-legged friends it is clearly a terrible and stressful event.
One of the main reasons for this is that dogs, like us, can get carsick. This is said to be more common in young dogs and puppies than in older dogs.
Another possibility is that the dog has made a connection between being in the car and a (previous) unpleasant or traumatic experience, leading to stress and nausea every time the dog has to be in the car.
Symptoms associated with car sickness and stress include panting, agitation, drooling, yawning, whining, lip licking and vomiting.
