Dealing with the loss of a beloved dog

The loss of a dog is an emotionally challenging experience that evokes deep emotions. Although the grief may never completely go away, we can find comfort in cherishing the wonderful moments we shared with our dog.

The emotional journey after saying goodbye to your dog

Losing a loyal four-legged companion brings a lot of sadness. Dogs are a part of the family, our lives, and our routines. It is therefore entirely normal to be overwhelmed by sorrow when our companion is suddenly no longer with us. Yet, there still exists a certain taboo surrounding the loss of a dog. For outsiders, it's "just" a dog. Nevertheless, many dog owners state that the pain of losing their dog is comparable, if not greater, than the loss of a loved one or a family member. Grieving is unique to each individual. A study revealed that on average, owners take about 8.5 months to mourn their deceased pet. Try to support the grieving person by simply asking how they are doing, sending a comforting message, reminiscing about beautiful memories of the dog together, listening, and sharing your own experiences.
